Every once in a while I come across a good deal. I’ve mentioned before that I try not to indulge in the mega sale/x% off/only 1 left! moments because I end up regretting the purchase later or worse, toss said item in the donation pile. However, when I spotted this particular sweater back in December in the sale section and walked out paying $3 for it……well, I’ve worn it several times since so this time, I stand firm behind this good deal.

Today I got to thinking about things. Like life, happiness, how I spend my time, how I want to spend my time, and the inevitable, work. When I think back to my last year in college, it was then that I really started thinking about the concept of a career, how I would support myself, and how I would become this career woman by the age of 24. HAH! Not so fast. At that age, I had finished my first graduate program and was nowhere closer to a career than I was 3 years prior.

I started working for a non-profit after graduation, and the organization’s concept was wonderful and I truly believed in its mission statement. It just wasn’t my calling, and it wasn’t what I had gone to school for. But it was a job, I was good at it, and based on where I was located at the time, I wasn’t able to find a position best-suited for my background. Hmmm. So then we (enter Dr. Love into the equation) move, and this time I pursue another degree with the goal of narrowing down my professional focus yet widening the opportunities for a riveting future career. During graduate school the second time around, I was involved in work that I truly truly enjoyed and marveled in. They focused on topics I was passionate about, applicable to what I was learning in class, I felt that I was contributing in some small but tangible way, and most importantly, I was growing as an individual and a social being.

Graduation and a new location occurred simultaneously, and for a bit of time I was unemployed. It was a mess, if I can say that. While Dr. Love was at work, stimulated by a guaranteed career and engaging co-workers, I was applying for jobs while filling my day with errands. I didn’t feel I had a purpose, I devoured all of Grey’s Anatomy on Hulu (season 1 on…), and was trying to figure out what to do with myself, how I would make a difference with my future position in the workforce. When an opportunity presented itself but wasn’t quite what I was searching for, I ran straight toward it, comforted by the notion that I would have financial stability and contribute to my aforementioned responsibilities, the dreadful student loans.

So now I’ve been at said job for a few months, and I find myself dreaming….of something else. Closer to my heart and interests. But it comes equipped with a coating of guilt, because I don’t want to appear ungrateful for this opportunity, or surpass the potential skills that can be learned. Not to mention ignore the economic situation in our country that has affected so many in negative ways. So I start thinking about where I am today, and what will be tomorrow. I think about how to find exactly what I want, and realize that it won’t be a quick fix and will take time to develop. How to get myself to my ideal job, where I can make a difference and grow in the process? How do I make this happen if certain circumstances, such as location for example, impose certain limitations? We spend such a great chunk of time in work or thinking about it, and how I spent my time is important to me. I’d love to find that balance, that special place that nourishes my academic interests and desire for social change. I would love to hear about your thoughts and personal experiences on finding your dream job, or current job. Do you dream like I do or are you one of the lucky ones, living the dream?

Catching up

Somehow time has passed me by and I have fallen behind on posting outfits. Truth be told I’ve been busy doing enjoyable things like auditing a mental global health class (nerdy but oh so worth it), cooking sweet potato soup for me and butter chicken for the hubs, and enjoying mocha cheesecake ice cream in 30-degree weather. The weekend found me coped up inside due to the bit of snow we received, and it felt oh so appropriate to enjoy a lazy couple of days.

I wore this outfit two Fridays ago when I had to sport a more conservative look for a meeting. I always have a hard time dressing up for more professional, business occasions, because I refuse to resort to any type of suit, so did my best to incorporate dark colors but in Dea-style.

A couple of weeks ago I realized I hadn’t worn the “clock skirt” all season and that’s partly due to its big prints, makes it a bit tricky to find a top that complements the color scheme while not competing with er, the clocks.

These next two outfits made their debut last week and again my motivation was to play with pieces that haven’t seen much action. The Reed Shirtdress was one of my first full-price purchases, and I have no regrets. It fits wonderfully and the cut couldn’t be more flattering. As for the Camellia blouse, I completely lucked out and was able to find it in my size during the extra 50% off sale. Always thinking it was overpriced I shied away, but after seeing it on Kristin here, I re-evaluated.

And there you have it, all caught up! It’s been a great exercise to document outfits through this blog because it’s a useful reminder of everything I own, and serves as a journal of how my style has evolved.

Getaway

Oftentimes Dr. Love teases me that I can’t stay in one place for too long, and there’s a bit of truth to that observation. Luckily life hasn’t enforced any abrupt moves to spotty destinations, but I have been lucky to visit different places and travel to distant lands, and it has always been a treat. Whether it’s a destination I’ve always had a curiosity about or a place I stumbled into by chance, it has always been a learning experience.

Since we had a long weekend without any work in sight, we made a last-minute decision to get away and explore a new part of the state, so we set our sights on Colonial Williamsburg.

Besides bearing the cold weather, we had a great time and it’s always nice to learn a bit more about history and looking at things from a different perspective. So many things have changed in this country since the 1700s, thinking about how little people had yet still led active and satisfying lives. Throughout the experience I think my favorite part was the costumes! And here’s mine:

At the end of the day we drove a bit further and stayed at a very cozy B&B, which included board games, movies, and a delicious breakfast. It is such a treat having the chance to drive away for a couple of hours and be near the water. We were close to the Chesapeake Bay area and it was a unique experience being on the beach with a coat and boots on!

When I got home, my TOMS had finally made it! They had been backordered since December from Nordstrom and I’d been anticipating to try them on. Oh my, they felt like butter, seriously the most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve tried on in a long time. I’m well aware that I’m far behind on getting on the TOMS train, but late is better than never, right?

On my first day out wearing this coat and I run into someone at CVS….wearing the same thing! Could be the smallish town, or the great Anthro taste Either way, I smiled, as it was a humorous situation and it hasn’t happened to me in a long time. Which got me thinking: how often do you gals come across someone that’s wearing the same thing you are? Especially if it’s Anthro. Even though I love spotting Anthro gems in magazines or on TV, it’s a bit different when I see someone IRL with a similar item on that I own. What do you say?

Many thanks to those of you who chimed in on yesterday’s post relating both to the dresses and shopping in general. I read each response a couple of times just because I’m really trying to do the right thing in staying true to my new goal of buying less. Various points were raised that had also come to my mind, like the ridiculous ‘cute’ factor of the Bike Lane dress, not to mention how unique it is. It’s definitely on my mind and might just be the purchase of the month because it seems like a popular item and I don’t want to risk not finding it in my size. Then there’s the Dropped Dots dress. It’s pretty adorbs as well, but I should keep it on my radar for now, hoping for a sale. This was a great form of exercise to really be more thoughtful on the purchase of the month. Many thanks again!

This weekend was very well-spent, and aside from grabbing dinner with friends and going for a long run, I simply took it easy. Watched more Felicity while falling further for Ben (same as back in high school) and reading for book club. While drinking multiple cups of Sleepytime Vanilla, I reflected on how often we’re expected to make the most of our weekends, cramming in as many tasks/errands/visits/projects as possible before Monday returns with its weekly obligations. I made it a point to absolutely enjoy all of the free time I had. While accomplishing a couple of small tasks, like replacing more knobs with pretty Anthro ones (pictures to come), I just let things be, taking in simplicity.

Big Trouble (Anthro dress reviews)

The other day I very innocently went to my local Anthropologie in search of drawer knobs. You know the ones, sparkly, unique, reinvent-your-dresser-and-renewing-its-looks knobs. I had great success replacing the knobs of one dresser, so I was back for more. On my way in I spot the Bike Lane Dress. Heavens above it was beautiful! And cute! And had me dreaming of dancing during the long summer nights with it on. I quickened my steps inside and ran to the dressing room to try it on.

Well, it’s a real winner in my eyes. I took my usual size 0 and it fit like a dream. I’m small up top but it held up great. In fact, it also comes equipped with straps, just in case. There’s a side zipper and a few buttons on the back. I was able to slip it on simply by undoing the zipper and leaving the buttons alone. It’s such a cheerful piece. It has a cotton slip underneath, pockets, hits great at the waist…..the list goes on. If only Anthro would have debuted this dress later because right now there’s no way I can wear it. What do you guys think??

As luck would have it, I also spotted the Dropped Dots Dress. My heart started beating faster because this was another dress I’d really been wanting to try on and check out in person. I grabbed my usual 0 and put it on. Everything was good, except for when the zipper wouldn’t go any higher than my ribcage. Maybe it was the holiday snacking? Too much apple cider? I grabbed the 2 and it made all the difference. The fit was great and it didn’t provide any extra room. I took a look at the online reviews and others noted the same regarding sizing. The dress is gorgeous, although I can’t decipher whether it’s black or blue, I keep going back and forth. Love the fact that it has pockets, the low cut of the back, and of course, the polka dots! My only concern is the fact that it’s linen and has the potential to wrinkle easily, but it can be easily overlooked.

So there you have it friends. I am in big trouble because I seem to have located my purchases for January and February. Can I seal the deal with shopping until March 1? Is it justifiable and logical? I haven’t been this excited about Anthro items since……..let’s just say it’s been a while. Please weigh in and give it to me straight.

Dea here. Just wanted to take a few moments and thank you for brightening my life as of late. In the clothes department specifically. See, you are fabulous at churning out magnificent colors and patterns. I can’t help but fall for your sequined stripes, vibrant flame, crochet lace and heather spearmint. The great thing about you is that you’re quick to turn things over to sale, so I don’t have to wait (what feels like) an eternity to get my hands on the tailored pencil skirts and feminine blouses you so adequately craft. You know how to make me look good. Case in point: today I was complimented by a stranger on the colors of my outfit. I mean the lady did catch me at Target perusing in the undies section, but I didn’t care, I was far too flattered. I never found a pair in my size, in case you were wondering how that story turned out, but it is a testament of your skillz. You can count on me to keep coming back to you.

Oh and p.s.: thanks for the pretty catalogs. They do wonders for those mornings when I need to look put-together. Which let’s face it, should be a daily form of exercise.

Today I had an important event at work so to keep myself in a good mood and confident, I pulled out this dress that was purchased with my birthday discount. It didn’t come with me to Belize for a birthday outing, but nevertheless, it’s a special dress. I highly recommend it due to its versatility and quality. Besides, it evokes twirling for minutes at a time.

Three big things about getting dressed today that don’t seem to happen too often: blazer, scarf, and the shade of black. I can’t provide the specifics but it has been quite some time since I’ve adorned myself in accessories and blazers, or wearing black for that matter. The shade can seem drabby at times, sweaters have taken over my choice in tops, and I seem to have forgotten about my collection of scarves! To keep things spicy and with the new year in tow, I brought all three to the forefront, simultaneously, in harmony. The result was a combination of chic and work-ready. This whole revisiting my closet more often is working wonders!

2012: being good to me

When I look back at previous new year’s beginnings, I take note of the endless resolutions that I vowed to stick to, and with the best of intentions, I derailed somewhere along the way. This year feels different, and instead of creating grandiose plans, I’m taking a step back and regrouping. One of my weaknesses is that I’m not the best saver, and can be quick to pay for said item/clothing/quick fix to live my day to the fullest, “beautifying” so to speak, my surroundings. I’ve known all along that fulfillment comes from within and less is more, but I really would like to implement that into action.

So the goal for this new year, for my life in general, is to make my finances work for me, not against me. When it comes to shopping I have to curb my appetite and find enjoyment in what I already possess, because believe you me, everything that’s hanging in my closet and tucked into drawers is already beautiful and I’m not missing a single thing. I’ve got my staple pieces and then some. I’ve made an agreement with myself and am posting it here to keep myself accountable. Plan of attack: one item per month. No excuses, no gift card purchases counting as an extra serving, no exchanges, no slip ups. There is just no reason for it because I have accrued so much in my immediate surroundings and want to take the time to enjoy it all, whether that be the books in my shelves or the pretty dresses populating my side of the closet. There will always be pretties available, that will never change, but I want to. Plus, I really want to address those pesky student loans that satisfied as an investment for my future

I’m feeling pretty good about it. During the last few days I’ve been unsubscribing from the multiple emails I receive regarding upcoming sales and cheap thrills. Instead, I signed up for Bikram Yoga and am in a groove with the latest book for this month’s book club. I’ve been revamping our apartment with simple things and enjoying the simplicity it brings. I’ve also been revisiting the act of meditation and with delicate trepidation, cooking I really welcome this change and believe that it will make shopping work for me by paying close attention to what will be added to my arsenal. My wishlists will still continue as I don’t discriminate against “pretty damn fabulous”, but they wont be there to cross off the list, as they can equally serve as inspiration.

I have to say, our trip to Belize also helped solidify this new change. The amount of pleasure and relaxation that was received from my experience made me want to save my money for similar moments, and explore new sights with the ones I love. That to me, is a wise investment.

Honeymoon in Belize

Happy New Year everyone and wish you the very best for 2012. It’s a nice feeling to receive a fresh new start to everything, yet I also appreciate taking the time to look back on the previous year and take note of all the positivity that transpired. Like getting married for example. The doc and I have been together for several years and have always appreciated our life together, but getting married was this extra little step that we took. In some ways it was symbolic of our commitment to each other, but it was also an opportunity to share our union with friends and family.

When people asked whether we would take a honeymoon, we noted that intern year during medical residency leaves little room for any planning or days off. And that’s why we were over the moon upon finding out that Dr. Love had been scheduled away from the hospital for several (consecutive) days, so a couple of weeks before leaving, we bought tickets to Belize and made the decision to spend my birthday and the holiday in Central America, far away from home.

It was the best decision we could have made. We made arrangements to stay in the island of San Pedro, and spent the majority of the time swinging on hammocks, snorkeling, and laying out by the ocean with pina coladas on hand. The island is relatively small with a population of about 4,000 people, yet also very diverse. We specifically chose a place on the southern part of the island to preserve a bit of seclusion, but for the majority of our meals we used the complementary bikes provided by the resort to bike downtown and delve into some of the most delicious, local dishes.

Coming back from our five day journey was a rude awakening, as I felt the cold wind strike me across the face once we stepped out from the airport to flag down a taxi. The coveted act of digging my toes in the sand was replaced by tugging tightly at the scarf around my neck. Sigh, back to reality. Below are a few pictures taken along the way.

And the hat? Most comfortable part about today. I discovered it at Gap somewhere around the black Friday frenzy, for $7! Dr. Love calls it my Ashton Kutcher beanie.

Tonight, rather than setting up the tripod to take a picture of my outfit I decided to park it on the loveseat and watch some more Felicity. It quickly got me thinking to how much I am drawn to Keri Russell’s effortless and graceful style. In addition to her demeanor, she exudes delicate beauty in the way she carries herself, and fitting for tonight’s post, I adore her personal style and can’t help wanting to find ways of emulating her somehow, in my own way.

She follows a simple rule: stay low maintenance and choose classic pieces that fit impeccably without a lot of fuss. Mainly muted colors, with the occasional bit of bright pink and when in doubt, scarf it out. I also can’t help but admire how cute she looks with the hubs!

My kind of holiday

When it comes to celebrating the winter holidays, my family of three is not known for its many traditions. Honestly speaking, I come from a country where religion was outlawed and at some point, having a Christmas tree was a dangerous endeavor that could land you in jail (glad times have changed). Once we moved to the States, Christmas was everything I could ever dream of and more, from neighborhood houses decored in thousands of bright lights to holiday songs blasting in every store as they enticed with their pretty, colorful, shiny, sparkly, newness. Everyone was running rampant, looking for gifts and checking things off the list - completely unbeknownst behavior to me. As time has passed I have tried finding my own definition and understanding of what this holiday season means to me in this country I have called home for the last twenty years. I went from giving BFFs Bath&Body Works lotions and potions, to random $5 gifts to co-workers I hardly know, to contributing to worthy donations in someone's name.

This particular year I laid low, and I mean l.o.w. As in, only sent out a few gifts - under five. Apart from not being able to muster enough courage to figure out the best deals both in store and online, I just couldn't be bothered in trying to locate items for people that I love and have everything they need. I understand gesture and know what goodwill is all about, but I wanted to pull away from feeling the pressure of gift giving.

So I got my mother something small from Anthropologie that would make her smile every time she used it in the kitchen, and got my man a couple of JCrew goodies for his fancy days at the hospital. And my besties, each a small item as a token of celebration for the New Year. It felt great to take it easy and follow my gut feeling rather than reacting to everything around me. I received a couple of gifts for my birthday since it's close to Christmas, and that was mighty special, but other than that I was glad to simply enjoy experiences and friends via Skype.

Besides, all those who know me believe that I'll treat myself to Anthropologie if that's what the mood strikes, and leave it up to me to pick what I like :) A week ago with my birthday discount in hand, I was lucky to find this dress

at my local B&M. After trying it on a couple of months ago it's been on the back of my mind, and since it never made it to sale, I decided to treat myself, Parks & Rec style.

I recently found Felicity on Netflix and am ridiculously happy about it. Felicity was one of my favorite shows that I religiously watched during high school and uni. I couldn’t get enough of her natural curls, sheepish demeanor, oversized sweaters, and leather backpack that she sported in Season 1. The way she followed Ben cross country, and oh Ben……….so yummy and delicious. I mean, even when he was a complete a** I still had love on reserve. Let’s not forget charming, supportive Noel, who inspired falling for a cute and sensitive nerd.

Re-watching a favorite show is somewhat similar to wearing items that I’d forgotten about, like this cardigan and skirt combo. They made me so happy once discovered, and finding them again helps me remember to cherish what I already posses.

Learned an important lesson today: don’t believe everything you read. Yes, I know this to be true, but when it comes to clothing labels and how to care for an item, I hardly stray nor question authority. However, I had two silk, “dry clean only” dresses that were ready for a cleaning. I decided to forgo the expensive dry cleaning bill and explore with a little thing called Woolite. I went online to ensure I was on the right track and after soaking each dress for five minutes, they are good as new! Something to keep in mind the next time you’re hesitant to purchase something due to the dreaded label.

This morning the alarm went off as usual, jolting my body in the hopes of providing sufficient annoyance. I try to work out in the mornings (otherwise it wont happen) so the alarm is set to a ridiculously early hour. Well, this morning I was in no mood to get my fitness on, and just decided that I would allow the vegan burger and sweet potato fries from last night settle in, guilt-free. Instead, I’m using the time to blog while comfortably tucked in bed. It may not be the most health-conscious move, but it sure feels good on this Friday morning. There’s always tomorrow.

Here’s an outfit I wore earlier this week. I had missed the appeal of the polka dots from this skirt, plus it’s a favorite Anthro purchase from Fall ‘09. At a loss for what to pair it with, I reached for a similar design and as a result, am dotted all over. I think the complementary tones of beige and black soothe the polka dot invasion!

Oh where does the time go? It’s already been a month since the wedding (I haven’t forgotten about the pictures!) took place and I reunited with all our friends. Now that it’s the holiday season I wish we were closer so we could spend more time together wearing tacky Christmas sweaters and sing carols.

Here is the debut of the lacy orange skirt. With the additional markdown and extra 30% sale, it seemed worthwhile to keep it around and cheer up otherwise dreary winter outfits. I was struck by the way the skirt was styled on the catalog, and was able to recreate the look with a blouse I recently spotted at Free People. FP is not a place I have a lot of luck with, but somehow this top was the right amount of billowy and dainty. Yet again, the Anthro catalog comes to the rescue and makes getting dressed in the morning a breeze.

My Sweater Picks (or gifts from Santa, depending how you look at it)

When I got word (thanks to Roxy) that Anthropologie was marking down their sweaters by 50% I squealed out loud . Good thing I was in my car, headed to work The news came right on time because I had just visited my local store and was close to bringing home a few cozies. Since I do the majority of my shopping online (when there’s free shipping) yet wanted to support my local b&m, I decided to put a couple of sweaters on hold last night and pick them up today. Here’s what I selected from the bunch:

I was really drawn to the antique feeling of the Gossamer True Cardigan in the pink color. It incentivizes me replace a couple of cardigans I’ve been ho hum about.

The Softer Diamonds Cardigan was a recent discovery at the store, and once I put it on I envisioned a warm fireplace and hot chocolate between my cold hands, while tucked away in a log cabin.

I had mentioned my desires for this sweater earlier, and boy am I glad to wait a little bit longer and purchase it on sale. Since my store did not carry my size, dearest Oklahoma came to the rescue and is ~~gifting~~ shipping it.

This is a decent size of sweaters to be purchased at one time, but I’ve only bought one all season and all these pieces are quality pieces that provide comfort, style, and….. oh heck, I just like them all!!

So tell me, was anyone else enticed by the sale and contributed to their sweater collection at home?

When the month of December rolls around it’s an exciting time of year for a multitude of reasons, with one of them being my birthday. This one especially is going to be significant because I’m leaving behind my twenties and entering a new age group preceded by a number I have no familiarity with – 3. Gulp. I have been dreading this for a long time. Don’t know what it is exactly. I think that when I was younger, I thought being thirty was SO old, so adult-like and grown-up. Settled. Family-focused. Career-driven. Established. HA! One of the many things I have learned is that age does not define one’s life journey. It’s basically a biological method of measuring time passing by, so it’s not as important where your mark is on the measuring tape of life as much as what you are doing right where you are.

So thinking less of my new age and more about what I want to surround myself with, I started thinking about how to use that special little gift Anthro throws our way once a year. Fifteen percent. Not a really significant discount when I think about it or compare it with all the other retailers that flash large numbers across my computer screen, flooding my inbox. But, it’s Anthro, and they remember my birthday, presenting their gift in a simplistic yet classy fashion.

I happened to stop by my local store today and without any plan in mind, found a few items that I wanted to surround myself with around the house and….wear on multiple occasions.

Discovering the Extra Ingredients Measuring Spoons and Austin’s Floral Measuring Cups in the sale section put a big smile on my face. Not only because they were on sale, that’s always fun, but because they are so darn cute and cheerful, making any baking project more of a treat and less of a chore.

Two slips you may be asking? I currently own two slips but am dissatisfied with both and their lack of quality. I bought them at Target, thinking I’d save on something I don’t wear often, but never undermine quality when it comes to intimate apparel. The Avec Toi Slip may not be silk, but it sure felt comfortable. It’s a needed length for my recent collection of midi skirts, and half off the online price. The Toppled Tulip Slip is indeed silk and feels wonderful on. I took my usual XS size in both.

I got a little too excited about locating the Hinged Belt in my size as I’d been on the lookout for some time. The green colorway had appealed to my affinity for color, and the hinges detailing toughened up the dainty design. I still need to make a couple of extra holes so the next adventure is locating a shoe repair store.

Last but not least, this beauty of a sweater that is the most cozy thing I have tried on in some time. I spotted the Sweeping Stitches Pullover a few months ago (I think, has it been out that long?) on a SA, and it just looked so surprisingly flattering! I love the scalloped hem and the fact that it’s cotton. I can see it layered over skinnies, especially ones in color, cords, and narrow sweater skirts. It wasn’t available in my size, so we’re crossing our fingers that a charge send will come through successfully and I’ll be able to wear this pretty soon. The SA was so nice, she extended the birthday discount for the projected charge send – happy early birthday to me, Anthro style.

A few days ago I stopped by my local b&m for a couple of returns, and while there, I took a little time to try on two items I've had my eye on.

Decisively Textured Pullover and Tuberose Lace Skirt

I tried on the sweater in my typical size, XS, and would say that it's TTS.Its material is soft and the crew classic cut is flattering. I worried that it might be see-through and would require layering a tank underneath, but it wasn't necessary and I can definitely get by with a nude-hue undergarment. While the blue version seems to almost have sold out, there are plenty in stock of the pink motif. I chose this colorway because its shades are so cheerful and they remind me of candy! I'm seriously contemplating it with the 25% BF discount...

As for the skirt, it's something I didn't think twice about when it first came out. The initial price of $188 seemed ridiculously overpriced, and when that happens, I don't take the said item seriously. Even at its first markdown of $130, I still wasn't convinced. Now that its been marked down yet again, I decided to try my luck and see what the skirt had to offer. I tried a size 0 and it fit comfortably at my waist but not with a lot of extra room to spare. If I went with the 2 I would definitely be sized out. The material is beautiful and its intricate embroidery provides that unique appeal Anthro is known for, but I just wasn't completely sold on the colors. I initialy had plans of trying the green, but after reviewing all the skirts in my closet, I thought some color would be more fitting. The orange is definitely bright, but it's also cheerful in my opinion, and it was beautifully styled on the catalog with a white blouse.
I ended up bringing it home to see its potential contribution to my wardrobe, but I'm also ~~not so~~ secretly waiting for another markdown to seal the deal.

This morning I got up before sunrise to run a half-marathon near one of the local vineyards. There was a small group of us crazy enough to layer as best we could, braving 30-something degree weather, surrounded by ice on the ground, mountain views and small creeks. Under different circumstances I would have enjoyed my environment to its full capacity, but this morning was about survival and reaching the finish line. I’m not typically up for extreme sports so the setup was unintentional. Once home, a nice hot bath soothed the overworked muscles and a long nap made up for lost sleep.

I took it easy for the rest of the day and met up with a friend, as we discussed about how uninspired we’ve been by Anthro lately. Not much seems to ignite impulsive buys or (in)patiently waiting for sale day. I have found myself purchasing something, only to rethink my decision and return the said items. I guess it’s my desire to update my wardrobe with new Anthro, but nothing is really wowing me. Well, except for maybe this, which I’m thinking of picking up with my 25% discount courtesy of cancelled items from BF online shopping.

I don’t know if this happens to anyone else, but when I have mornings where the creative faucet is sealed shut, I take the easy route and reach for newly purchased items. One could argue that it’s a testament to the excitement and newfound versatility of said new item, but it feels like I’m taking a shortcut. Take this shirt for example. I was able to obtain it for a great deal due to cyber Monday discounts and my rewards card. As I ran around in tights, hands on hips staring at that all too familiar closet, feelings of helplessness and defeat clouded my better judgment. I tore open through the plastic, crumpled up the tissue paper, tugged at the price tag, and tucked in all around. Done! Here’s to getting dressed on a Friday morning.

I mentioned earlier that when we first moved to Charlottesville the joint decision was to do away with cable and simply rely on our game console for accessing Netflix, Hulu, and the like. It has been a wonderful change and I don’t miss any of the Bravo and E! shenanigans. Of course I did happen to come across a clip of Kourtney and Kim take New York online, but quickly after retreated to our staple shows: It’s Always Sunny, The League, Parks and Recreation, and the occasional Law & Order: SVU. It’s been great regulating the amount of time we spend in front of the TV, as it opens up more free time for reading. Not only have I been devouring some great books, but I have also been pickier about the magazines coming in, and even picked up a new subscription to Real Simple! It’s the little changes sometimes that can offer more room for positive growth.

Since the day started out wet and gloomy, I decided to pair bright colors together and channel JCrew’s knack for preppy patterns and fisherman sweaters.

This Thanksgiving break turned out to be a wonderful occasion for staying home and bringing the holiday festivities to our little humble abode. Rather than getting on a plane or scheduling a long drive to Florida, I made the short trip to the airport and received my mom with open arms, ready for some long-overdue TLC and home-made cooking.

For the past two days we have thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company while plotting of ways for living in closer proximity to one another. I can’t deny it: being in my mum’s presence provides tranquility and understanding. We were able to explore some new trails around town and I took a few pictures to document the beauty of simplicity:

I had absolutely no intention of participating in Black Friday’s frenzy, but with Anthro participating for the very first time and discounting sale items at an additional 50%, I simply could not help myself. Curiosity got the best of me, so I urged mums to get ready and we made our way to the B&M. Although nothing was on my “must have” list, curiosity carried on its typical role and I brought home the following:

The trinket flats in green were beautiful, and for $25 they’ll provide much versatility to otherwise casual outfits. I took a size 8 even though I’m normally a 8.5/9.

The cargo pocket sweater skirt had me wondering whether it had the potential to flatter, but once on I really dug its stretchy waistband (hello holiday party sweets) and cozy material.

The turnaround chemise seemed ridiculously comfortable and a sweet alternative to my usual flannel pjs.

West wind beanie – a sweet baby pink accessory for bearing the cold winter that lies ahead.

With the white bag in tow, I took myself home, back to the tranquility of family and delicious kitchen creations. Although my intention was to surpass materialistic needs, I ended up succumbing to the one store that always hits the spot.

Hey. Hi. HELLO!! It’s been a while since I frequented these parts, but I’ve been a busy bee getting married and wrestling a mean cold. The good, I mean ridiculously brilliant news is that the wedding was a big hit, sandwiched somewhere between last-minute tweaking and late-night dancing. During the week leading up to the big day I experienced a whirlwind of emotions, trying to keep in mind all the little details that would make the day memorable while unsuccessfully carving out some alone time to craft my vows. Even though I swore up and down that the event would not turn out to be a stressful ordeal, I could not avoid the midnight crafting or the endless trips to Michael’s. I confess to texting while driving to family and friends, eating french fries en route to the florist, and forgetting to pick our song for the first dance.

Aside from marrying my life partner and best friend, what I truly marveled in was reuniting with my close friends and family. Hosting an occasion that brought everyone dear to us close together made me beyond elated, and I most definitely shed a few grateful tears over the teamwork that everyone displayed in making our special day come true. And as for documenting the special day, I was lucky enough to snag a very talented lady who worked hard to capture uninhibited moments and snag everyone’s distinctive spirit. Soon, I’ll share a few snapshots and show you what I mean.

Before I go, I wanted to post what I wore today, a surprising find that caused me to break my shopping ban for the month. I know, not my finest moment, but as I was running from the cupcake shop to eh, Michael’s once again, I escaped to Anthro for just a few and landed upon this dress that was completely new to me. Once on it felt so comfortable and smooth, basically nothing like the demeanor I had been displaying, so I brought it home and feel unabashedly effortless in it.

Here is a skirt that has been on my jcrew “wishlist” for the longest time. It was love at first sight when my eyes laid upon it in the catalog, and serious lust developed once spotted at a local store. For its first time I wanted to rough it up a little and not follow the apparent lady-like appeal it carries, so I left the pumps at home and walked out with the boots. I am delightfully happy and ecstatic to announce that a certain someone is getting married in less than two weeks!!!

I’ve been keeping quiet for some time but it has all taken place very quickly. We found out in early September when Dr. Love was assigned his vacation days,(when you’re an intern, the concept of choice is nonexistent) so it’s been a whirlwind ever since. I’ve been surrounded by fabric, yarn, construction paper, zig-zag scissors and paper chains. It has probably been the most creative, overwhelming, exciting, fulfilling moment I’ve experienced thus far.

Today also marks the first day of the no-shopping zone. That’s right, with Anthro’s Free Shipping news in the air, I am choosing to stay strong and look away. Once again, we headed back downtown for thai after a long shift at the hospital. This time we came barging in with a LivingSocial voucher so dinner tasted extra delicious. I really enjoy downtown Charlottesville because something is always taking place, and besides, it’s a great backdrop for picture taking! This skirt was recently found at F21 a couple of weeks ago and I couldn’t be more pleased with it. I had been on the lookout for a full skirt in a mustard color for a very long time, but nothing quite hit the spot. At under $20, it seemed to be an easy investment on a versatile piece. The extra bonus are the side pockets that come along with it.

So lately I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about shopping. The more I think about it the more I come to the conclusion that shopping, wise, thoughtful shopping, is actually hard work. Something I’ve always enjoyed about well-dressed women, young or mature, is that they own a limited amount of items, but those items are flawless and flattering. I certainly have no problem finding clothes I enjoy, but there is a difference between liking something and having something work for you. I don’t always make that distinction and the outcome is unworn items hanging in my closet, or making their way to ebay or here. Sometimes I jump at the chance of buying something, only to bring it home, reconsider, and return. It’s a waste of time, energy, and confuses my shopping instincts even more.

With a new month around the corner, I thought this would be a good time to take a temporary hiatus on shopping. Figure out the pieces that I already own rather than distract myself with new ones. This way, if there are particular items that I feel are a true void to my wardrobe, I can assess, make a list, and do my homework. Besides, November is the month of being thankful, and that can also be inclusive of attire, no?! Just as I’m processing this new idea, a sweet little email from none other than Anthropologie hits me up, furiously tapping on my newly constructed no-shopping walls. What does it say? Oh, nothing special, just FREE SHIPPING (on orders over $100) for the month of…….November. I see. Well played Anthro. As if things weren’t already going to be hard enough.

These pictures were taken exactly a week ago. I remember it well because Dr. Love got out of the hospital at a reasonable hour and after picking him up I kidnapped him to the wonders of Downtown Thai. Since the sun was going down and outfit pictures needed to get done, I threw him my phone and pleaded to take some quick snaps to capture the main street scene. What I failed to take into account were the pedestrians breezing by, wondering why I’m trying not to pose but obviously getting my picture taken. It felt rushed, and the blurriness in the shots demonstrates the haziness I seem to experience as days continue to blend in together.

I’ve been up to something, occupied with some pretty exciting news, but don’t exactly know how to express it all so I’ll report when I feel a bit more prepared. In the meantime, I leave you with what I would say is my first official Fall outfit. It’s probably significant because I’m wearing tights for the first time, accompanied by the booties. Electric Blue…….for Fall?

Coming to Charlottesville, I knew that this time of year would be picturesque and a beloved sight to be surrounded by. Now that Fall is here I am amazed at how beautiful everything has become, from the continuous falling leaves, to the crisp air, including the college girls decorated in tall, tan boots. Love it all, nature and the sharp fashion trends it inspires.

In addition to my changing environment, the décor on my kitchen table has gotten a facelift. I am now amongst apple cider, apple-cranberry bread, pumpkin bread, and I may just be in the middle of whipping up an apple pie. I have no self control apparently and can easily be persuaded by vitamin A goodness.

Turning a complete 180 on you gals, here I am in my finest blues. The shocking color of the pants is bold, but I like it. Especially when paired with light palettes, or a lace top such as this one. The colored denim trend this season has definitely been accepted ‘round these parts.

Heaps of Anthro Fitting Room Reviews

I’ve been meaning to post these for a while, but then I recently visited the Anthropologie store in Durham, NC, where I was able to find some true gems not yet online. Good thing I waited so that a long post could be constructed

Glinting Persica Sweater Dress – the short answer: not a fan. The long version: something about the pattern, the material, construction and awkward line across the bust really made me think twice about it. The top portion of the dress felt really snug on, yet if I went up a size I think the rest of the dress would lose its appeal and appear baggy. For sizing reference, I tried on an XS.

Lepidoptera Dress – This dress has been out for some time but I only tried it on a couple of weeks ago. Such a true beauty with its pretty butterflies and full skirt. I immediately wanted to partake in some form of girly activity, like a tea party or skipping about in garden full of flowers. I tried on the size 0 and it was a perfect fit, no room for any slipups due to the strapless bodice. My only hesitation was that the print, while adorable, doesn’t fit so well with my lifestyle at the office. Perhaps a re-consideration is in order once on sale.

Colorblocked Sweater Skirt – I picked this up in an XS and the fit was fair, true to size. I liked the contrast of gray and yellow paired together, but wonder what I could be tucking in a sweater skirt so that the waistband has room to shine. Seems like a great staple for the fall/winter seasons, but I own too many gray skirts to justify its purchase.

Unconditional Osier Dress – I absolutely loved this dress, and happy to discover that its appeal online manifested in reality. I have on the XS and it’s a great fit, even with a bit of room for those dinner dates when I overstuff myself with sweet potato fries and Blue Moon. Oh right, back to the dress! The blue lace was definitely something new for me, and I have nothing like it in my closet. I can see this belted, layered with cardigans, dressed up or a little more casually. Seriously re-considering!

Pleated Ponte Skirt & Helping Hands Top – The top had caught my eye before but I always thought it was a bit too busy for my taste. My assessments were correct on this one once on. Cute in theory but too many hands all over me makes a little uneasy! The skirt was really adorable in terms of style and flirty swish action, but the shade of green had me thinking of St. Patties the whole time. Could not get it out of my mind. And with that, back to the rack they go. For sizing reference, I tried the top in a Small and the skirt in a 0.

AG Stevie Ankle & Soft Chevrons Pullover – The pants are now on sale, though still a bit steep for my taste, considering that the color is more of a trendy shade. However, I have absolutely no complaints about the fit and the flattery they bring about to a sometimes challenging area for us ladies (read: thighs and bootie). I tried on a size 28 because it was the smallest size available, but feel that my true size would be a 27 or even 26, due to the stretch. The pullover drew me in specifically because of its soft shade of pink and unique sleeve detailing. Even though I tried on an XS, the fit still felt a bit loose and unflattering in the stomach region. You’ll see in the pictures below as well.

And we have an unbeknownst skirt to me, but completely lovely and very timely for the upcoming season. I tried on the XS but it landed really high on my waist, so perhaps sizing down to a Small would bit more comfortable. It has a thick waistband and a zipper on the back. A definite sweater skirt, in a somewhat heather blue/teal colorway, priced at $168. I have not found it online but hoping it pops up in the near future. I really liked this one, but ultimately held back due to its steep price. With that said, as time goes on I could be easily tempted to reconsider.

I saved the best for last! This beauty was just laying there, on a wooden table, waiting for me to put it on! Okay, so not really, it was just there for anyone curious enough to take a closer look, but nevertheless I put it on and it was love people! I think this was a Size 0, and the skirt material is jersey. It’s very reminiscent of the Gathering Breeze Dress, in both style and price. I truly loved it on and think it would be perfect for an important, upcoming event. I think my favorite part is the embroidery detailing on the bodice, so this dress is completely wishlisted and needs to arrive at my local store stat!

On Friday I took the day off from work so that we could drive down to North Carolina and attend one of my dear friend’s wedding. We’ve known each other since the early days of 9th grade so it was definitely special and somewhat surreal seeing him in traditional attire, exchanging vows of love and devotion. The other treat was also reuniting with long lost friends who I had not seen in years. There was laughter, dancing and loads of eating to be shared.

On Sunday morning I got up bright and early to run the Ramblin’ Rose women’s half-marathon with my friend Erin. This is my third half-marathon but the most important one, because the Duke Cancer Institute was selected as the primary charity partner. A few weeks ago I lost a very important person to this disease and decided to run in her memory, honoring her life in my own way.

The day continued with a trip to Anthro, where I experienced a resurgence of sorts after a ho-hum attitude on what Anthro has been churning out as of late. I’ll try to post some reviews tomorrow and share with you a new dress that’s not yet on the site but has been ingrained in my mind.

After a late-night drive, Monday morning was quite a chore for getting dressed. I reached for something comfortable and cozy, and I suppose, a little dazzle. I found this top last Fall at the factory store and it was the perfect mix of sweatshirt comfort and sequin perfection. Pairing the pastel pants with the wingtip oxfords seemed like the perfect mix of classic meets girly.

It would figure that right after I proclaim that big markdowns are a thing of the past in my current state of shopping habits, I happen to find this polka dot number at Old Navy and pay $1.88 for it. Ridiculous I know, it’s like the store was begging for me to take it away. It almost felt like a charity-case type of purchase, knowing how it feels to be left out from the group. So I made that $2 purchase with the sole purpose of investing in a piece that is both playful and versatile.

And if you happen to see spots on my skirt, your eyes are not playing tricks – it’s that darn rain I was grumbling about the other day. It got me.

Today’s weather was just one pitiful mop of wetness that continued without pause. I honestly cannot remember a day when it rained all.day.long. The gray skies showed no sign of the sun’s existence, and it got me thinking: can the weather really affect our moods to such a high degree that I’m grumbling every time I reach for the umbrella or for being bothered to step outside.

With wet clothes and frizzy hair, it was no state of being to warrant OOTD documentation, so instead I dug through my archives and am presenting an outfit worn a couple of weeks ago, when I seemed to be in apparently brighter moods. I started shopping at young age, roughly in the beginning of my teenage years, like most women I presume. I didn't have much money. As immigrant parents, mine never heard of a thing called "an allowance", and when I finally got up my nerve to negotiate for such a concept in our household, providing success stories of other American children and their parents, I remember getting a long speech about responsibility, duties, and something in the lines of "not in a million years". So I did what other peers took part in: babysitting. It was a job that provided the opportunity to develop simple earnings, but also helped me earn my independence to go shopping and buy clothes from places I liked, rather than succumbing to stores my parents felt more comfortable with (financially speaking as well). So with my hard-earned money I would find myself at the mall, perusing through the clearance aisles of Wet Seal, Contempo Casuals, and 5-7-9, on the hunt for cheap thrills. It was less about quality and classic style, and much much more about current self-expression and honestly, something new for the closet to liven things up a bit.

Looking back now I made some very poor mistakes in my choice of clothing, and even if the clothes were only $5-20, they were definitely not good investments. Let's face it, when it comes to certain articles of clothing, there is a reason they've wound up in the sale section. This rationale of shopping on my own at "my kind of stores" went on for a while and I will admit (and my friends will be happy to hear this) that I did not always have it 'going on', but that was okay, because for that time in my life, I really was exploring myself through Vans shoes, knee-high striped socks (think bumble-bee motif), and cut-off jean shorts, I was expressing myself, for better or worse. Were there instances when I was picked on for what I chose to wear? Most definitely. Is that the case for most teenagers? Sometimes, but what I take away from that journey is the realization that I had some minute form of courage to listen to my instincts and explore my fashion sense, or lack thereof.

Fast forward to college, and now I'm a full-time student with campus employment. A little older, a little more money, a little more options. This is the time I stepped foot into American Eagle, Gap, Express, and even dabbled into JCrew (when the JCrew warehouse made an appearance at our campus, I was over the moon). It was also the time when I ventured into TJ Maxx more often (especially because my roommate worked there) and also discovered Plato's Closet, a store that continues to sell gently used clothing, predominantly in university towns. I hardly ever bought clothes at full-price. Not only was it out of price range, but I could always make the argument that something just as fitting could be found in the sale section. Towards the end of college is when I got a credit card, and that is when I was also introduced to the concept of buying with money I didn't yet have, simply borrowing for a short while, and pay back everything at the end of the month. It was perfect for the times when I found the perfect shirt/bag/dress/shoes and didn't want it to get away due to a lack of funds.

Then graduate school came along, which brought on school loans for the first time, a continued limited student budget, and a steady curiosity for expressing myself through clothes. Little by little I continued accruing more items, which in some ways served as a distraction from facing the reality of truly being away from home for the first time, and existing in a new town that I had difficulty fitting in. The credit cards took on a more active role and I was slowly amassing more clothes than I actually needed. The one thing that was truly missing was my own sense of style. Somewhere amongst the clearance aisles and the Delia’s magazines, I was in search of expressing myself but was applying material instead of true imagination. Rather than create outfits that I really enjoyed, even if it meant repeating the same item, I was looking for the new, unmarked, large collection that would keep me current somehow.

A similar story continued once I graduated and started working. The focus became acquiring a work-appropriate wardrobe but the main ingredient, personal style, was yet to be conceived. I would venture to say that finding my way through the sea of magazines, catalogs, sale sections and clearance bins was a byproduct of self-reflection and inspiration. The Sartorialist connected me to a very unique form of documenting personal style, and served as the introduction to fashion blogging. Starting my blog was a great way of differentiating what soothes my soul and what is a futile attempt of replicating someone else’s vision. It didn’t come naturally, it takes a long time, but through the journey I learned to stay away from the aimless sale shopping. I am in the process of truly understanding that less is more, and am reminded of that by some pretty creative bloggers that can remix the heck out of clothes, which ultimately makes style more sustainable, timeless, and inspiring.

During the last couple of years I’ve realized that I shop at a limited amount of places and don’t enjoy shopping as much as I used to. Years ago I could make a date for the mall and not blink twice at spending multiple hours perusing through each store while trying on clothes with limitless energy, but now I shop when truly inspired or can envision my style evolving with a particular piece. There are moments when full-price purchases do take place and are a product of much deliberation, but gravitating towards sales due to the big red letters has lost its temporary appeal. These days life seems brighter due to the fulfillment gained from accomplishing good deeds and curling up with a good book. Sharing living space and love with a special one exudes similar effects. I’ve found that developing as a human being feeds the creative soul, which in turn makes for classic, personal style. Crafting time to invest on my creative side allows for less accumulation and more originality.

The other day, a friend and I got to talking about the overt frequency of those who use Facebook to update everyone on everything. You know the guilty-as-charged status: “So glad I got my Starbucks today. Now I can deal with Monday!”, or “I took my daughter to the hair salon and it cost me $200. Gosh, kids are expensive!” We were reflecting on where the need comes from, to document everything and share with everyone to see, hear, and read. And before I get any further with my assessment, I am well aware of the facts – me, myself, and I take pictures most days and post along with ramblings, about my musings on a public forum. But let me be clear, this isn’t a moment for critique as much as observation and intrigue.

I remember while growing up, it would be a rare treat to catch a glimpse of actors getting caught doing normal, everyday things. There was great curiosity about what celebrities were like, amazement at the kind of lives they must lead, but they were always far away, as if existing in their own island. In today’s time, we have multiple sources of entertainment covering “important” details, such as who’s dating who or which actress is or isn’t on a diet, starving herself for attention. There seems to be a consistent need of not only sharing anything and everything but also tuning in to everyone else’s details.

What I want to know is, when did it become important to let everything out and not hold anything in? Why is it relevant to be current on everyone, celebrities and each other? Does it promote gossip and superficial concern, and what ever happened to being satisfied from within and not getting public recognition?

It’s an interesting phenomenon, social media, because even though it can nurture a culture of over-sharing, it also creates connections among people that would have otherwise never crossed paths. So while I agree that social media has created positive shifts in communication practices and crossed over cultural grounds, has it also made us blabbermouths (and I mean that in the best way possible)? Is the need to share a result of available communication avenues, or was the need there all along – for recognition and acceptance?

Well, hey there Tuesday, thanks for coming along so swiftly that you completely erased Monday from my memory. I don’t know the exact cause, but time has been getting away from me. The glorious weekend that was just here? All my fun plans of exploring apple orchards were tossed to the side, and instead I had to get with the times and do the old switcharoo of transferring my summer clothes to storage and liberating the fall/winter goodies. My goodness, my tights collection is quite embarrassing. There are quite too many; not to mention unopened packages of back-up berry bush tights.

I wore this little number yesterday, and couldn’t believe I had managed to dress JCrew head to toe. Actually, I can believe it, because lately I can’t seem to get enough of its bright colors and clean palettes. In fact, I took a trip to my local B&M and came home with a goodie bag. The last few days seem to have breezed by and I’m not sure where the time has gone. Somewhere between making the bed at 7:30 pm and preparing lunch at 7 am, work, sleep, and operation special project (more on this later)have been the staples in my schedule. One night I found a moment to curl up on the couch and flip through one of the library books I had discovered, French Country Style at Home. Its detailed pictures illustrated rustic farms and intimate antique collections, floating me above reality and into retreat heaven. I couldn’t get enough of absorbing each page, and began to picture myself riding a bike (with wicker basket on the front) through lush gardens, arranging brightly colored terra-cotta pots in the kitchen, and curling up in ivory vintage bed sheets.

The color palette that kept revealing itself throughout the pages was gray, beige, white, and natural light. Old books and naturally romantic details were sprinkled throughout the rooms displayed, and I couldn’t help but wish for this type of vintage paradise to recreate my surroundings.

Truth be told, I wore this outfit last week shortly after the skirt arrived on my doorstep. I have absolutely no regrets on this purchase, and good thing, since there was elevated blood pressure due to final sale stressin’. There is something about silk that exudes sophistication and class. As for the blouse, I found it during one of my random stops at the UO downtown store. It was a fantabulous sale find and I couldn’t resist the hearts pattern. I don’t often pursue purple or wine-colored items, but this mix of mauve and black is a tolerable and satisfying balance.

I wore this outfit on Saturday to pick up library books and sake. Not at the same place mind you, but the weather turned cold and I had to dig out boots from storage in order to appear seasonally appropriate. For sake and library books.

This dress was a classic example of one of those ‘I’m crossing fingers and toes that I’m picking the right size because it’s JCrew’s final sale and there’s no turning back’ typical dilemmas. Just like the weather, I was flip flopping between two sizes, and finally just pulled the trigger, telling myself that if I incorrectly went with the smaller size, I’d just have to monitor what I ate in order to avoid appearing like I ordered the dress in a size too small. Or go the quick route – sucking it in. Oh the ridiculousness that comes with JCrew’s final sale. So tempting yet so permanent. Oh, and I just noticed that the tote is regular price online, but I found this red beauty on sale in-store. Again with the games JCrew, but who am I kidding – I keep coming back for more. Specifically for this.

Hehe, I couldn’t help myself But seriously now, the trends recently keep taking us into the buff territory with the blush hues and flesh-colored pretties. Pale shades usually prepare me for lingerie land, but lately I’ve been warming up to making neutral tones street-appropriate. I haven’t been doing too much shopping recently, which is always a good thing because hey, less is more, but I thought it would be worthwhile to share what I have bought, all relating to the theme “in the nude” (teehee).

First we have this surprising find from the gap. I found the raw-edge henley shirt at a great price during one of their recent online promos. For about $20 I scored a great blouse in a pale, caramel neutral that is both polished and comfortable. I’ve got my eye on the olive colorway as well but don’t want to be greedy!



I honestly gave up on kohls a while back, but then I discovered Lauren Conrad’s line of new arrivals and this pleated shiffon skirt seemed like a great deal, not to mention versatile. Pleats are slowly taking over the skirt section in my closet and I can’t seem to help myself. I went up a size and ordered a 4 for length’s sake. I see it layered under a cozy sweater, perfect for tucking in a chambray shirt, and a bit edgy with black tights and booties. A worthwhile investment in my book – thanks LC!



If you blinked, you might have missed the miniscule of a sale that Anthro drizzled upon us today. It was great for my wallet, but what made things even more special is that the million pleats midi received its second cut! You see, while visiting Anthro this weekend I spotted this skirt in my size, and since I’d never tried it on, I took it along for the fitting room ride. Loved the color, of course the pleats, and a bit on the fence about the length. For $80? Not a chance, but I took it home because I had this sneaky feeling it would get marked down soon. I think I have ESPN or something



Ah yes, the loungewear also known as the brushed lace pullover. After trying it on a few weeks back I thought it was too pretty to leave alone, all folded up, feeling neglected. I believe in giving, and apparently taking. Since purchasing I’ve worn this top a couple of times, and its delicate texture paired with the rose flower motif induce feelings of romance. And you tell me, who doesn’t like feeling romantic?

Well, there you have it, my fascination with nude colors for the Fall has been declared. Between the colored denim, chunky sweaters, high-waisted pants, lace and velvet, I think me and my nude tones will fit right in!

Tonight my ladies, I was finally able to check out the movie Something Borrowed. Now I have never read the book, didn’t know much about it at all in fact. And it turns out that going in with a clean slate is the best thing, because that way I can enjoy it for what it is. For those of you who have seen the movie, it’s hard isn’t it, trying to figure out which side to take. On the one hand you can totally root for the couple that is in love but can’t be together because of this barrier which coincidentally entails someone already being in a relationship. Arguments can be made that being deceitful is justified because the other person clearly isn’t right for the guy and doesn’t appear to be a good friend. She appears selfish, self-centered, just not a good fit. But does it justify cheating and lying? Oh the agony of it all. Yes, the ending provided a solution of sorts for all parties involved (I wont spoil it for those who haven’t yet seen it), but I’m always a sucker for romance, even when it seems to toss aside the notion of ‘doing the right thing’.

And who is this hunk of an actor that both ladies were after? Does he ever look bad in any of the scenes? How was it possible that the slim-fitting shirts flattered in every way possible?? And spiked hair, when do I dig spiked hair?? Oh he seemed so polished and pretty, not exactly my type, but darn it, good looking is my type (check out exhibit A-Z, also known as Dr. Love, for tangible proof). And how about John Krasinski’s character who is like the cutest BFF one could ask for. Is it too much to request that each one of us have such eye candy at our disposal for friendly hangouts and lunch dates?

The nice thing about adjusting to bitter events, is the potential to move forward on a more positive and reflective note, remembering what makes me smile and why I started blogging in the first place. So instead of continuing to mull over what turned into some kind of “popularity scandal”, I’m ending the chapter that I never wanted to read, and share my happy these last couple of days.

On Friday I didn’t have to work, so a friend and I took a one-hour trip and ventured into Short Pump, a shopping center in Richmond. It was more about getting out than breaking the bank, plus I walked away with gifts for the hard at work Doc. Later that afternoon Dr. Love and I had a date at the Pavilion and enjoyed the Avett Brothers in concert. They were wonderful live and made me miss NC just a little!

These last few days the weather has cooled off significantly so the morning walk to the farmer’s market yesterday was a breeze Perusing through the aisles and chatting with the vendors was a kind reminder of how special simplicity can be, and how some of the best things in life are free.

These goodies made it home with me, and the smell of fresh basil and whipping up zucchini fritters was my happy.

What has transpired in the last couple of days throughout the Anthro-blogging community has been thought-provoking and gut-wrenching on many levels. For me the story began with an unspecific and vague apology post which hinted at remorse, and strongly supported a stance of moving on from the ordeal. Being the optimist that I like to think I am, I wrote a comment stating “ I hope all is well and that everyone can move forward and is able to focus on more life-changing events that affect so many on a global level”. It was moderated by the administrator and was never posted.

Later that day I start reading on Roxy’s blog about multiple incidents that have apparently been going on for months, disrupting many lives and emotions, and what hurt to read the most, was this fear that speaking out about wrongdoing would shun those affected away from the Anthro community. It was then when my heart broke for the first time, because here were strong and intelligent women who believed in a person and a service being offered, and were led astray. And even though the treatment was dishonest and manipulative, those affected felt scared in speaking out against someone perceived to be a powerful force.

I speak only for myself when I say this, and Roxy mentioned this in her own way, but here it is: while various blogs commonly share their enjoyment and affinity towards the brand Anthropologie, we all function independently of each other and are responsible for our own thoughts and actions. In simpler terms: we are just like you and you are just like us. There is no favoritism towards specific bloggers or readers, no secret handshakes or Anthro filters that bring some in and leave others out. I sound like a concerned mother but please speak up if something isn’t right. The community is here to help, not isolate.

From the inception of my blog and since then, I tread lightly with caution. I share my outfits but by no means is the main intention to promote spending and accruing new things. The main goal has and continues being, to utilize the blog in sharing personal style. I always aspire for a collaborative environment, an opportunity to make friends and help out in whatever way possible. Through my time blogging I’ve received several emails from women asking for advice on multiple topics, but also for help in finding items, shipping packages to Canada at a low cost, etc, and I’ve happily obliged because if the situation was reversed, I hope someone would do the same.

Those who know me personally would agree that I don’t like to stay quiet when I see someone being wronged. Maybe my sensitivity originates from the shy days in my younger years, and moving to a foreign country made me retrieve even further, but I know the difference between right and wrong. With time my confidence has grown, and I have felt more comfortable in voicing my concern, so as I was reading people’s testimonials on getting the run around, being led astray, questioning themselves, feeling fearful of publicly sharing their concerns – I got angry. I was mad. And felt really really hurt. I wanted to speak out about the unjust behavior that took advantage of hopeful individuals who believed that were receiving an honest service. I’ve seen people struggle without a way of getting out, read daily about people scrimping and saving during these tough economic times, so when I read about hundreds of dollars being kept from individuals who work hard for the money they had invested towards something they took pleasure in…… I better keep my mouth closed.

Even though for different people the outcome of this ordeal has been a greater focus and an honest evaluation on budgeting, consumerism, and defining the real value of objects (please check out great reflections from Tara, Jess, and Roxy), personally this experience showcased the power that bloggers can be given unassumingly by fellow bloggers and readers. Yes, blogging provides the means to establish a voice and can create a heavy following, and I do understand there’s strength in numbers, but I always remind myself that an individual is truly measured by their actions, as well as their words. Whether we are spectators or collaborators, there is true value in standing up for what is right and showing concern when something is “not quite right”. Yes, I’m all for leaving positive comments on blogs, but let us feel comfortable and confident in using that communication for constructive ways as well. For example, if you see me out of line with new purchases, and really are concerned and looking out, get at me!!

Even though the summer is coming to an end and supposedly the weather is on its way to cooling down, there is still a bit of summer that I would like to hold on to. And this is the reason why:

I had my eye on this cheerfully bright little frock for a while, but it always stayed put in the shopping cart as I tried to resist temptation by reminding myself of all the other dresses I owned. And of the upcoming change in seasons. By the time I made up my mind to move forward with it ( I mean really, when would I ever find something like this again?) my size was out of stock. Predictable.

Yesterday I received an email from Ruche letting my know my size {S} was available, and I couldn’t type fast enough to get to Submit Order. Now I just need the weather to cooperate and give me just a few more weeks of mild temperature so that I can skip about town dressed in rainbow colors.

They say intern year for a medical resident is supposed to be one of the hardest. It’s like initiation into a fraternity: breaking you in and then slowly easing up. I was forewarned and prepared to see less of my partner, adjust to dinners alone and encouraged to throw myself into activities so that I wouldn’t feel alone or take it personally. All this chatter really got to me and how could it not. I have been on this journey since medical school, and can openly admit to being lucky and having a really solid relationship with Dr. Love. I say lucky without ignoring the hard work we’ve both put into our daily harmony, but generally, we made certain that there was always time for fun engagements that required us to be silly together.

When we moved to Charlottesville I came with the mindset that a new location would bring on an unfamiliar schedule, one which would place us on different ends of the spectrum due to work obligations. But instead of the foresaid lonely nights and dinners-for-one, we rearrange our activities so that the daily routines be shared. How does that play out exactly? Before work, instead of running in the morning I drop him off at the hospital so that we can start the day together and wish one another a good day. It means taking care of “me” business or watching “Dea” shows until the doc gets in and we have dinner together followed by an “us” activity. It’s also meant adjusting to a disequilibrium when it comes to completing daily chores (a challenge for a gal with a firm 50/50 mentality), but most things are temporary and I know he’s putting in ample time in the hospital. If anything, I’m proud of him for making a difference and taking on the responsibility of health care, which is convoluted, unfair, and chaotic.

When this weekend came around and Dr. Love didn’t have to work, he surprised me with tickets to a local beer festival. We love these kinds of laid back settings and set out for the event yesterday. Had a great time with our miniature mugs and necklace of pretzels. It was loud, noisy, hot, and hilarious seeing folks singing and dancing along to the live band. Inevitably, the best part was having fun together while enjoying multiple beers for a few hours. For the special occasion I broke out the Sugared dress, standing out in a sea of maxi dresses and jean cutoff shorts. The frock was so comfortable and the pockets were convenient for tucking in my lip gloss and ID. I hope your weekend was special as well and all the best for the week ahead!

I have to say, blogging is definitely something that I enjoy partaking in. I created this little corner for myself, though in a very public setting, where I come and unload. For over a year and a half I have come back here to document outfits and delve into what is my personal style, but I also like to explore what’s taking place in my life, what my thoughts entail, and even what I foresee for the future. It’s been a fun ride, exploring this part of me that I don’t often share with others. But the challenge with sharing sometimes is the ability to find the right words and express what needs to be conveyed, and that’s where this blogging thing can get a little tricky. Balancing what’s too personal for me and what’s relatable to an audience, discovering how to define my boundaries yet flourish as a young woman.

As much as this little corner gives me an outlet to be myself, it realistically exposes only a small fragment of what I’m comprised of. There are many things that invoke a passion, ideals that move me to devote time in making a difference of some kind, and my personal relationships with friends and family which most definitely solidify who I am. There are also moments when I wonder if anyone else has the same general questions I do, if others share similar experiences, but there is this fine line between what can be introduced in an open forum and what is best left to discover alone.

What I do know is that the interactions brought on by this section of my world have supplied an immense amount of pleasure, for the simple fact that it generally feels good to be able to relate to someone else. This concept of connecting with individuals I have never met is both bizarre yet enlightening. But above all, what is most notable about this experience is the desire to seek and share. About anything an everything. At certain times it relates to my wishlist for Anthropologie, and other times it forces me to put into words thoughts and feelings that carry on with no end in sight.

What is my point with all this (you may or may not be asking)? This simple truth: sometimes it’s hard trying to figure out what I want to blog about! So many things happen in a day, ideas I’d love to elaborate on, but once I get here facing the computer screen, I draw a blank. I fail the ability to carry one thought to the next. But I want to write, I like jotting down fun fashion finds, heck, it’s my outlet! It just doesn’t always come together as easy as I would like it to, but I’m beginning to understand that it’s okay. It’s just part of the process.

Today has been this dark and wet pathetic excuse for a day. I already didn’t want to go back to work because I enjoyed the break so much, but then woke up to lightning and heavy rain. Yuck! What kind of motivation is that for starting the day?

Luckily the work day moved at a fast pace and I even got to go home early and work from home. As I’m jumping past puddles, balancing my umbrella as I climb up the steps, I find a wet and moppy little box in front of my door, from my favorite: Anthropologie. Way to put a biggo smile on my face! And the smile got even bigger when I tore through it and uncovered the following:

The Sugared Dress! Why hello there, what a journey it was getting you here. You see, when the dress first made its debut online I was intrigued. I liked its feminine cut and full skirt. I liked how flattering it could be, but I wasn’t quite sure about the pattern. I was always on the fence about it, but then when it went on sale the other week, I thought this would be the time to try it on. I called CS and got the famous “no stores in the country carry this dress in your size”. Grrrr, that just meant I’d have to make some cold calls. Which is what I did, and for whatever reason I started with the state of Connecticut. Well CT was good to me because with the second call I got lucky and was able to land this dress in a 0. Success!!

And today it got here and I immediately jumped out of my clothes and put this dress on. It made me feel so pretty, with its cute little cap sleeves and 50s silhouette. What was wrong with me for overlooking this little sweet cupcake? I feel lucky to have found the dress and really think it’s going to be worn in the early fall and through the late months of the year. Keep it coming rain, I’m no longer bothered by you.

Hi everyone! I hope you’re enjoying the extended weekend and had a chance to do exactly what you wanted. With me, there is always this battle of “I want to go to the Anthro store weekly and shop away!!” and “I need to exercise self-control and enjoy what’s in my closet”. Without fail, these thoughts run through my mind as I drive by enamored and hooked by the store displays. Well, the other week I stopped in because I was on the hunt for Fall arrivals. Didn’t find many newbies, which is why I need to go back soon , but in the meantime, here’s what I tried on.

I picked out the Brushed Lace Pullover and the AG Stevie Ankle to pair together because I’m typically drawn to these colors. The top was an easy winner due to its romantic lace and sweet hue. It’s again an Anthro move where a lounge item is something I’d confidently wear out and about. I took the XS and it was still roomy, but I think the fit flatters. Especially because it’s a requirement that you layer a tank underneath so it provides enough space to let the lace shine on its own.

As for the Stevies, true love! I took the 27s because it was the smallest size my store carried. They definitely stretch so a 26 would probably be a more realistic fit for me. I think initially in the dressing room I can see the appeal to go up a size because they’re snug, but after moving around for a while and doing ~~imaginary~~ squats in the dressing room, there’s definite stretch. The color is bright but soft - does that make sense? It’s a faded jean in a really flattering cut. Everything about this pair is perfect…..except the price tag. Because bright colored jeans are a big trend this fall there seem to be multiple options at various price points, so ultimately it depends on what you can afford and how often you’ll wear them. Isn’t this always the case though?

All Aflutter Blouse – eh, wasn’t a really big fan of this top. I tried on the 0 but still felt like I had too much room at my disposal. There was extra room in the arm sleeves that the flutters could not conceal. I tried on the blue because it seemed like a more versatile color choice, but I usually don’t have much luck when it comes to buying pieces in staple colors. They just feel boring to me and I’d rather have some kind of pattern, some kind of “extra” to take the boring out of it. The sleeves seemed to be the only distraction for making this top special, but it didn’t have that wow factor for me. Because remember, I’m going for love these days, not just like. Well, it’s just a simpler way of saying that I’m become more particular about what I buy.

So there you have it, short and sweet. Now it’s time to make another trip back to the store! You know, a good sale tomorrow would be a great motivating factor

Weekending

The weekend so far has been a bit productive, a bit lazy, and definitely included work. Le sigh. I could have really done without that last part and had a proper 3-day break full of reading and relaxing.

Today was a good one worth sharing. I took care of my car, watched a couple of episodes of Brothers & Sisters (did anyone else get into this show?), read for my book club, and just because I couldn’t stay away before it went bye-bye, I visited the JCrew warehouse sale once again. Everything seemed more in disarray than usual, but an extra perk was the additional 20% off all sales. I located a pair of Minnie pants in my size for $15 and a dress for $16. Not something that the closet couldn’t do without, but with deals like those it’s hard to stay away.

I wore this outfit a couple of weeks ago when the temps cooled down for a few days. It definitely felt strange pulling out a long-sleeve top but it also reminded me that Fall is just around the corner. This chambray shirt was one of those rare full-price splurges at JCrew since items seem to make it to sale pretty quickly. The cotton was soft, the fit was body-hugging, color just the right shade without being too dark, and I had been wanting such a staple piece for some time. Once things cool down more permanently I might be brave enough to tackle the jean on jean look, though I may ease into it with white jeans first!

First of the month

There’s something about the beginning of the month that serves as a refresher of sorts. A chance to start anew, to leave behind the last month and whatever came along with it, and a look into the future, the possibilities that could be. Kind of like the beginning of a new year where I make resolutions, reattempting to make up for what I didn’t get to before.

Thank you for all your warm wishes with the previous post. It was a sad moment in my life, still is in fact, so I’ve been taking my time with it all and keeping my thoughts close with the ones I love.

So today is the first day where I continue with the person I am, attempt to make the most of every day, and take comfort in what’s around me. Like this blog for instance. What started as a fun way to explore personal style turned into an opportunity to write down my ramblings, let things out in some way, and be able to go back and reflect on the mini journeys I’ve gone on.

All reflection aside, today’s skirt reminded me of the dress Julia Roberts wore in “Pretty Woman”. I mean really, how she managed to make prostitution classy is beyond me.

It’s a classic piece decored (is that a word?) with fun polka dots. I found it back in April during my visit to Chicago. For less than $30 it seemed a fairly affordable summer staple and it accompanied me on my trip to Italy and Albania. Gosh, that feels so long ago!

Seems I can’t stay away from the airport bathrooms to sneak pictures of my outfit. Promise I washed my hands real good. On this occasion the trip wasn’t as glamorous as the last. It was great in that I headed home and visited with mom and friends, but the real reason for flying down was serious and life-changing. It was a moment whose roots sprung up without any warning during these last few weeks, and all we can do now is accept the time that exists and be thankful for the moments that remain with that special someone.
There seem to be certain moments in life that really shake you out of the norm and make you really pay attention to the little moments. I’ve been carrying that with me these last few days.

I spotted this skirt during my trip in Italy. For one, I was just thrilled to be in a Zara store, but when I spotted this amazing of a starlet, I knew I was in trouble and looked to the currency exchange gods to be on my side for once. Pleated skirts have been on my radar these last few months, and they usually flatter most body types which is always a plus.

Something about this combo that I love, and if I could get away with wearing this outfit all week long, I would!

Exploring the green factor

Oh my goodness, I’ve been working hard these last few weeks! With the new job and extra hours, my plate seems overflowing. And to think – this is what I wanted all along. You see, when we first moved to the new town and I was fresh from my international internship, it came time to face the music that I was done being a student, done with my assistantships, and on my own to find employment. It was a challenge at times, not bringing in a steady income or going somewhere specific every day – I basically felt like I lacked purpose.

My days were filled with errands (I mean how do you NOT have to go to the grocery store 3 times a week), cleaning and arranging our home, and when possible, sneaked in trips to the pool. Yes, I was in the middle of a summer break, yet I kept thinking about how I didn’t have a job and with this economy in a new place, how would I ever find anything?

But I did, it worked out, I now have somewhere to report to every day, and a purpose of some sort that comes along with the job title. However, when I have a moment to breathe I think back to those days when I had it easy, finding plenty of time to explore new sights, run over to Michaels or get wrapped up in a new project.

Seems like the grass is always greener, don’t they say? I haven’t figured it all out yet but I know this: for now, this works. Will it always be this way? Who knows. Perhaps when little individuals enter our lives I’ll change my tune, or it may reinforce personal thoughts and beliefs. Perhaps the really perfect turnout would be to have all the time in the world and not have to worry about money, but knowing me, I’d feel guilty and worry that I wasn’t contributing to the world somehow or digging in something I’m really passionate about. The bottom line: it’s a personal decision, and I feel lucky to be able to have a choice. Sort of.

When I woke up this morning and thought about the outfit I would put on to start the week (skirt or dress, skirt or dress), I decided to finally wear this blouse I got a while back during one of my Anthro trips. The skirt? Also a newish, celebratory purchase once I found out someone had hired this gal. The two got along perfectly throughout the day, and little did they know what they were in for.

What did they NOT go through today, is the better question. Let’s see, 8 hours of work, mainly sitting behind the desk, then off to the free clinic for some volunteer work, followed by an impromptu dinner pick-up at Taco Bell (Dr. Love had a craving so I happily obliged), consuming a Chalupa or two while laid out on the couch fully focused on Season 3 of Breaking Bad. Oh, and a bit of laundry was done as well, so by the time it’s time to go to bed, I realize that I’m still wearing my OOTD because I.am.Devoted. Had to take pictures of the outfit because it seemed worth documenting.

Yes, you might see some wrinkles along the way, but this is as real as it gets. The outfit sustained a day of living, just like any other. I know that in magazines everything looks prim and proper, creases at the right angle, shirts tucked in with JUST enough gather at the waist. I tried, I adjusted my shifting belt several times throughout the day, but the determination to keep presentable carried on. What say ye fellow bloggers? Have you found yourself keeping on the outfit until you’ve had a chance to document on film, even when pjs would be a much happier and logical solution??

I must add, the bag is the latest discovery at Ruche. It had been on my radar for months but always seemed to find it sold out (such disappointing words at important times). The other weekend however, there was only 1 left in stock, so I took my chances and came home a winner!! Love its color and functionality, not to mention the polka-dotted lining!

P.s. this outfit also sustained recap footage of Kim K’s big bash of a wedding. I tried staying away but when everyone made such a big deal of her dress, I had to play detective. Is it just me or does her new hubs look like he just graduated high school?!

Just to make Friday even more special, I got word from a friend that there’s a J Crew Warehouse sale going on in town. I was too excited and couldn’t wait to get there, but I also needed to keep a level head because last time I went, I walked away with over 6 pairs of shoes! Sure, they were each $20 Italian leather shoes which is an amazing deal, but I just didn’t want to accumulate. Once I got there and took a look at the prices, everything seemed really reasonable. Dresses were $30, sweaters ranged between $20-40, and the most expensive shoes were $50. Really great prices considering J Crew’s typical price tags.

The warehouse sales always feel really overwhelming to me because there’s boxes everywhere and it seems like there are so many goodies ready for the taking, but upon closer inspection it’s more like finding the needle in a haystack. The staff tries to keep everything organized by size but with so many women digging and tossing, chaos is inevitable. I always seem to have luck with shoes, and brought home the following:

At $30 a pair, these were a no-brainer. I’ve got my mind on Fall and the oxfords on the right will be great with dresses, skirts, toothpick cords and the popular Minnie pant.

I went in hoping to find Jackie Cardigans, preferably in a shade of red or berry, but I knew realistically that the odds would be low. Imagine my incredible surprise when I came across a red cashmere cardigan in my size, displaying my favorite shade of red. As if to continue the theme, I found another cardigan, this time in a lovely shade of green (looks like I’m ready for the holiday season in December). Its bright color reminded me of what J Crew has been churning out for the Fall.

Definitely a successful visit and I’m already debating whether I should go back. The only incentive is that these types of warehouse sales are known to further mark down prices as the days go on while they continue bringing in new merchandise.

There are days when I don’t make much of an effort in getting dressed. Kind of ridiculous to admit since I try to document daily what I wear, but it’s the simple and plain truth. Take this OOTD as an example – I had all these fancy ideas of how to dress up the pencil skirt and show off a little calf action with heels, but what I wanted to do instead is wear comfortable shoes and pull out a pair I had yet to wear all summer. Throw in an easy V-neck tee and you’ve got yourself a deal.

Oh dear, my trip to San Diego was too short and can’t believe it’s Monday once again Saturday brought on another day of meetings, but luckily they ended early so I had some time on my hands to explore a bit of the city prior to catching my flight. Thank you to everyone who chimed in on where to go and what to check out, but unfortunately I only had a few hours at my disposal. From my hotel I took a taxi ride to Seaport Village where I basked in the energy from the tourists and breathed in the smell of water. Well, marina water, but it was nice from what I’m used to. I loved the cool weather the city experienced during my time there, and during the night I was actually cold!
This is the outfit that I wore for the second day of meetings, for traveling home, and for napping once I finally arrived home!

I bought this dress months ago and have worn it a couple of times but this is a first for the blog. It’s well-made and the lace detailing is something I favor a lot these days. Someone had asked about the Seychelles – they were bought several years ago from UO and come to think of it, UO seemed to be the place for my Seychelles hook-up. That is, until I found out about all the other shoe sites – now I almost have too easy a time locating Seychelles shoes!

Last but not least, during my time in San Diego I had the outmost pleasure of meeting Carol of In Pursuit of Pretty Things. It’s always such a treat meeting a blogger IRL because even though I felt like I knew Carol, I’d never met her before – such a bizarre concept! We of course made a trip to Anthropologie and tried on a couple of beauties (see Carol’s recap here). Her two children were so darling, I especially fell for Kate’s adorable-ness, and now I want little ones myself If you couldn’t already tell my the blog, Carol is a beautiful person inside and out and I’m so delighted to have met her!

A quick hello

It’s day two of my stay in San Diego but I wanted to quickly document the OOTD from yesterday. Like I mentioned before, the purpose of the trip was work-related so the goal for attire was business-casual. The group dynamic is generally male-dominated and at times conservative. I just have to say that I’m really not a conformist and in fact, I sometimes like to be an outlier for the purpose of keeping true to myself (and this doesn’t apply just to style). In a sea of khakis, button-downs and black suit jackets, I decided to go for a fun-detailed blouse and pair it with a solid navy blue skirt. Although initially I did feel a little self-conscious comparing myself to others, that quickly passed and I remembered to think less of clothes and more on why I was there!

Troublemaking Maxi at the Airport

Hi everyone and greetings from Dulles airport!! Today is travel day so I’m making the most of my layover in DC and posing in front of mirrors in public restrooms. My dedication as a blogger is unquestionable This is a first for me, publicly displaying the garb I attire in as I squeeze through airport crowds and drag my carry-on along escalators. j

I ordered this skirt a while ago when the XS was still available, and it sat there in its packaging bag for what felt like a really long time. When I found out I’d be traveling across the country I thought this was perfect timing for wearing something stretchy, long, and flattering. While I am no stranger to maxi dresses, this my first time owning a maxi skirt, and you know, I’ve been missing out! It seems to me like there’s endless options for layering long sleeve tees during the early fall and tucking in little tanks for the remainder of the summer.

A quick post for tonight as work has been keeping me busy. I don’t mind though because my reward is near and it comes in the form of a trip to CALI! So flippin’ excited as I’ve never been and San Diego has been on the list for some time. I’ll spend a quick few days mostly in meetings, but hoping to sneak away for little adventures.

This dress was a beautiful find once I was able to locate it in my size and on second-cut. The eyelet top, flirty pleats and the flower detailing makes this frock dainty just enough for a hot summer’s day.
